In partnership with the University of Nottingham and Loughborough University, the East Midlands Zero Carbon Innovation centre will drive research into renewable energy and advanced manufacturing to support the decarbonisation of heavy transport.
By combining the universities’ research expertise and industrial partnerships, the Centre will focus on power electronics, hydrogen propulsion systems, and electrification technologies. Advanced laboratories and facilities will enable innovation in these areas, helping industries adopt sustainable technologies.
Aligned with the University of Nottingham’s goal to reach net zero by 2040, the Centre exemplifies how East Midland Freeport can convene academia and industry to accelerate the energy transition and establish the East Midlands as a leader in zero-carbon innovation.
